A Merry Search Engine Holiday


Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah and happy Kwanzaa to all of you. The holiday season is getting very close, it is now only a few days away. The perfect time for, you guessed it, a new search engine update. This is a new one for me as I generally follow Google and the agony they create with each new update. This month however my target is Yahoo.com and it's latest changes. The last major update (part 6) was completed on December 15. We have all been watching and waiting to see the results of this update. It seems Yahoo has it all under control though. This update did effect a lot of users but most are happy with the results as it seems Yahoo is trying to out do Google in getting relevant search engine results. Tim Mayer posted a Blog at the Yahoo Search Blog. This is what he had to say:
"As always if you have any feedback for us about the new index please email: ystfeedback@yahoo.com. Please provide specific feedback that includes either:
1) Specific query terms where the results are good or bad.
2) Specific domains that you feel are either being under or over indexed.
We look forward to hearing from you."
Don't get me wrong there are those sites that have completely disappeared but, there is reasoning to this. Search engines are trying to filter out those who purchase backlinks for search engine optimization purposes and different spamming techniques. Those that are complaining that they have lost ranks also complain because they say they have done nothing to drop off the search engine results pages. That they do follow all the guidelines and that they only utilize strictly white-hat search engine optimization. There are enough of these complaints to know that not all the bugs are worked out yet. This could also be a hint that there is another update coming in the near future. With the way Google has been acting I really hope Yahoo.com can pull it together and show us what we all want to see: the perfect search result for sought after keywords. They still have a long way to go but, it seems to be going a lot smoother for yahoo.com then Google.com had with "Jagger".
