Amatsu – A Holistic Choice For Health

I am struck every day by how each action and decision we take has a multitude of options and possible choices.

I am humbled by how a choice I made has enabled me to help people towards health and by how their choice has led them to me rather than conventional medicine. Indeed I am often the last resort for some clients.

I first encountered Amatsu therapy through my daughter who was an aspiring ballet dancer, faced with a debilitating ankle injury. That treatment impressed me so much I had to find out more. As a teacher I was already doing something that "helped" people, so I was offered a choice. Choosing a new career in Amatsu was risky. It removed a safe income and presented me with one of my fundamental fears: failure!

Having made that choice, taken two years and qualified last year, there can be no doubt that it was the right one. Clients arrive with various problems but through Amatsu I am able to offer a holistic approach that gives them a choice as to how to deal with it.

Amatsu principles are based around the Go-Dai (Big Five). These five areas affect and have effect on all of us:-

Physical - our bodies, all the parts of our body.

Chemical - the vitamins, minerals, hormones our bodies use as well as the food drink and drugs that we take.

Environmental - the place we live, the people we interact with, our occupation.

Emotional - our reactions to situations and people, the way we think.

Electrical - our brain and heart activity, our nervous system. It also includes our energy channels or Chi.

These five areas are totally interdependent. Even a small change in one will alter the others. For example – you trip on some loose carpet (environmental) and break your wrist (physical). The resultant pain (electrical) persuades you to go to hospital (environmental) where they give you pain killers (chemical). You feel very silly for tripping but also scared as to what you may have to face at hospital (emotional). You are put into a cast, which enables you to begin healing (physical & chemical) and as the pain lessens, you need less pain relief (chemical). You also quite enjoy the attention and time off work (emotional).

Read this account of one of my clients and see if you can relate the Go-Dai to her situation:-

One of my clients is a keen netball player, also devoted much of her spare time to training young enthusiasts. She was doing a job she did not enjoy. She sprained her ankle badly while playing and was therefore unable to either play or train. She came to see me feeling guilty and depressed and consuming large amounts of pain relief. After 3 treatments she was back playing on minimal pain relief. Previous episodes of injury had prevented her from returning to netball for 6 – 8 weeks.

Knowing that she did not have to wait so long again before she could play again helped her to re-evaluate what she wanted and she changed her job to one directly associated with netball. She has not been injured since! (There is an extremely important issue here on how profoundly our emotions can influence our decisions and actions.- both conscious and unconscious!)

Perhaps the most amazing thing about Amatsu is that as the therapist, I use your own body's natural healing processes to facilitate a result. Your body knows exactly what it needs in order to work at its' optimum. It will also do whatever it can to keep you going! However, in our society we have generally lost the ability to listen to our bodies.

How many times have you felt the need for sleep but "had" to keep going?

How many times have you had a strong emotional response to something but "ignored" it?

Unfortunately, we do it all the time and our bodies will take those things and store them somewhere creating patterns and torsions that may result in illness/pain many years later.
